Horde of Anachron live at logans apr 2006

Here's some history of ole vic for ya. I ain't no authority but I was there feeling the power! FEELING the power! A couple of metal heads branched out from the mudane music that was availiable in the early eighties and formed cutting edge metal bands like Armarous (jed Simon) and Tantrum (tolan McNiel) and my faves MISSION OF CHRIST (steve Mcbean). These bands where the start of something new in Victoria! It was a new power in metal. It RIPPED and my 40 year old neck is still sore from those days. HeadBANg you fuckers!! I'm glad i got to see those bands some twenty years ago. IT WAS PoWER!

I'm a punk at heart but still really enjoy seeing metal and sometimes go and check out some of the new metal in our city. I sometimes get lost in the speed and the grunting vocals and sometimes i don't really fell the power of this type of Metal..... so sorry Peruke and Tard, you didn't do it for me on that night.... but the dancefloor and others better than I seemed to like you.

Midshow the smoke started to rise and lights dimmed to RED. A flurry of drums and a grind of guitar riffs assaulted my head... at first I felt I should take cover because the initial volley of sound sent the dancefloor into a violent frenzy. The soldier at the front of this tank mixed his voice from grunts to wailing orders of a frontal attack! The dance floor was not going to win this war as another blast of smoke came from the stage and another fast and heavy double base drum fire was blasted into the audience. The guitar gunner was serving riffs at breathtaking close range that would all of a sudden level the front line into some serious headbanging. I watched a civilian clamber out of the floor as blood spilled from his head. The next song started and I felt no more restraint in my body as I forced my way through the flying bodies to see this tank from the front of the stage. Goosebumbs formed on my body as I looked the machine in the face. It was my duty to raise my fist and bang to the unshielded metal coming from the stage. A speaker was sliding all over the front as the audience fell into it and the band took thier toll. It was the POWER that I had felt some twenty years ago only it was new......... IT WAS HORDE OF ANACHRON!

Motley Crue Apr 2006 SOFA Victoria

I don't know where to start.
I went with some of the most hardcore punk rockers from 1980-84. These guys used to search & destroy.
First off how the hell can you be someone named Vince Niel and get away with calling that many people "Motherfuckers"? If you where in a bar and called someone that... especialy if you where dressed in the pansy gear Motley Crue wear.... you would for sure be callin an ambulance.
And Yessss the sound was horrible! It usually took a few minuits to decifer what song was playin. Which was shitty for me because i only know maybe 2-3 Crue songs. I never bought into that type of Glam rock. So I waited the whole night for them to play "Welcome to the Jungle" and it freakin ends up that song isn't even a Crue song.
So now we have women crawling around on stage with nearly nothing on.... midgets tied up getting whipped. "Oh Hi, yes i'm a professional dancer... i dance around and rub my vagina on Vince Niel, other girls faces and ropes and spark making devices" Then the titty cam!!! What happened to the Dicky Cam this band really wants? But man does your mom have nice breasts!
Now the pyro show was cool... i want some of those flamethrowers for my backyard! Those loud explosions in between the odd noise that was supposed to be a song scared the Depends off me!
Then Tommy Lee. Runs around and swears and then then does some sort of techno rap peter pan thing that looks more like a Jane Fonda work out gone wrong. I kept waiting for him to start singin "Thank you very much a Mister Roboto."
But hey if I was a Crue Fan and Tommy phoned me and asked if i could play drums for him... I would be HIGH as a kite..... real proof that you don't need drugs to have a good time. My hat goes off to WILL HUNT. That must be the ultimate for any fan. From what i could see he was doin a great job!
I did enjoy the atmosphere of a live show that big... and yes the place is full of chairs and no-one used them! Stand up and flick your bic man! It would have been a good night to do B&E's in Langford because most of that municipality was at the SOFA..... including the COPS.
And Hey did you hear they arrested twice as many people at the Hilary Duff concert compared to the Crue show.... Bad boys of rock eh.
Anyway the show was at a near end and the encore was an old punk Classic called Anarchy in the UK. I looked over at the old punks i came with and saw them sitting on the chairs yawning. Then after a few minits of decifering the old dudes stood up and started belting out every word to this great old Sex Pistols song.
The light came on and as we left i found a toonie on the floor.... "F@ck Yeah!" What a great ending to the night!

Summer and the Sinners CD release party Mar 31 2006 Central Bar Vic.
Buddy Love productions. Buddy and Sum are friends of mine and play in a blues/R&B/ boogie type band. They just finished their second CD and were having a little party at the Central Bar in Victoria. It was time I got out of my closed idiot mind and checked out something different so off I went to check these guys out. Being an underground music enthusiast I don't usually go see live shows of this genre. Trying not to sound prejudice, I have never been that hip with a white band playing the black mans music. I did have the fortune of seeing John Lee Hooker some years back at Harpos and have to say is it's pretty powerful when it comes directly from one of the originators. Still the blues and R&B have been played very well and more popularly by white people for years. Realistically Blues and R&B is a feeling not a color, so I should just shut up and listen! I entered the Central to find a full almost standing room only crowd grooving to the sound of S&S. This was an older crowd and I could tell there were a few authentic Disco kings and queens from the 70's dancing on the floor. Yes the floor was dancing. We found a seat at the back and I started to feel this band. Summer was dressed in a glorious velvet gown that at times almost spilled out her ample bosom as she sang. Summer can sing along the lines of Aretha/Etta/Janis Joplin.... and she was belting it out with all the passion and feeling that night. The band that adds the music to this singer is quite a batch of Canadian/ musical history. These guys have resumes dating back to the sixties with bands like Downchild Blues Band, Kenny Loggins, Morning Star, Sling Shot just to name a few. Some serious talent was standing on that stage. The Sinners "went off" pulsing and shuffling to the boogie. The guitar licks where shared between David Vidal and Buddy Love and when the solos where brought to center stage you could see these guys flex and strangle the necks of their guitars with true boogie intensity. Paul Nixon was drumming with the steady beat similar to a train ride through the Rockies. Brenden Headly on the keyboards was the finishing touch that filled in the spaces well. A saxophone was added later to the show to add even more blast. It was an energy that the Sinners where giving and the packed dance floor proved this band wasn't just dealing a second rate product.
Although I'm a fan of a stronger music this little gig was enjoyable. Their new Cd is available on their website www.summerandthesinners.com and if you’re a fan of the boogie/blues/R&B you must give it a try...... even if you are a "Whitey"! cheers - ricky jak (rule 62)
