CLODBOOKS RIP

after 8 years on the web the clodbooks website will be closing. seriously we haven't had a visitor in 6 months so needless to say we ain't worth crap on the search engines. Anyway here's some of the book pages and whatnot. enjoy'
the clodbooks basement was full of comics, paperback books, magazines of all kinds, plastic car models, glue, Planet of the Ape stuff, Mad magazines, punk rock music memorabilia, records, skateboards, a couple motorcycles, car engines, and lots of dirty laundry....

I got off early one day from the old scrap yard and found myself in a junk shop going through the stacks of debris. Always a good hunt and the drunk owner usually gave the stuff away, that is if you were brave enough to get past the pack of barking dogs... I still remember him saying "ahhh howabout 25 cents for that." As fate would have it, or the keen eye on me, I noticed a box hidden under piles of stinkin' old velvet curtains. I held my breath as I pulled the box out and clouds of dust, dog fur, and maiden hair puffed up around the curtains. It was worth it!What I found in the box was an amazing stack of Carter Brown novels as well as many others, in top shape. What was even more amazing about this find was the breathtaking cover art that graced these pulp pocket gems. One of the store dogs came chasing a ball and knocked me flat as I drooled over my find. I carefully sorted the books and put them back in the box and wandered up the aisle to find out how much the stinky man in the jean jacket was gonna charge me for these babies. He looked at them and asked the one question I hate to be asked.... "Make me an offer chappy." Sometimes if you make this dude an offer he finds offensive (too little) he will grab the books out of your hand and tell you they aren't for sale. I had to offer him lots today because I had to have these books. I emptied my pocket and came up with near ten bucks and he took it. I scurried home and added these amazing books to the Clodbooks room. Now one thing that caught my eye about the covers was the way this artist presented his models backs. I found them compelling. This is something I had not noticed before in the stacks of paperbacks that litter my basement. I researched the artist and he goes by the name of Robert McGinnis. Robert is responsible for tons of paperback covers and paintings, and has a couple books on his work availiable. So I hope you enjoy this little gallery of womens backs by the incredible paperback artist Robert McGinnis.

Hot Rod fiction and non-fiction.In the fifties there was a rash of movies, books and magazines on the hot rod lifestyle. I myself was not alive untill 1966 so I missed out on all the great times in the Hot Rod lifestyle. My father was in a car club called the Quarter Milers. I still have my father's club jackets. Those days a guy could build a car without having a ton of cash. I have spent hours hanging around automotive shops listening to old geezers tell me about all the great tin they used to have. The muscle cars, the racing, and the accidents. Every summer I go check out at least one car show. I always admire the cars that the owners built themselves. The big-bellied hot rodders out there that have big wallets and clean hands just don't do it for me. By the same token the 'all show and no go' guy is a little weak in my books also. Oh yes, this is what this post is about, books, not my worthless opinion. Honestly the only book I have read on this page is Rolling Thunder. Now this book is about the birth of stock car racing and it does capture that flavor. The main character is a bit of a goody two shit even though he's a moonshine runner. Now the only parts in the book that got me going was when young racers in the pits introduce themselves as Lee Petty, Ned Jarrett, and even the fist fightin' Junior Johnson. Which reminds me of the time I offered to lap count for the Canada 200 at our local racetrack. Never again, I missed the race because I had to watch the same car...BORING .
