The Mags, Cadaver Dogs, and Hank Angel @ Logans Oct 2006

I worked six days straight.... ahhh that sounds funny considering I never work six days gay. Anyway, tonight I had the incling for a little Rock fix. I drove to the Lucky bar only to find I was at the wrong place. DJ Jazzy Jeff I reconed wouldn't be opening for Hank Angel and His Islandic Devils, The Mags and the Cadaver Dogs. I got back in my van and drove to Logans... Victorias home of Counrty Bluegrass Rockabilly Rock Metal Punk. Yes Logans was the right place. I was hoping the Mags would be on first because i wasn't sure i could stay awake for three bands. Much to my dismay they informed me The Mags where last.
Do to loitering outside I missed the first singer who was a Lady act and thats all I know. Second Up was Hank Angel who serves up traditional apple pie with a twist of speed. I don't in anyway promote drugs but If you took some speed and added traditional country rock a billy you might get something that sounded like Hank Angel and his Islandic Devils. Now we all know the real Hank was a heroin addict, But Hank Angel is a little more modern in sound. These guys are good and this was the second time I had the pleasure of listening to them. The crowd cheered loudly but stayed on thier fat lazy asses drinkin so unfortunatly the dancefloor was empty for Hank.
Cadaver Dogs from Vancouver where next. These dudes where sporting cowboy hats and all. I was hoping to get a taste of that ZZ Top album Fandango but instead got a blast of Leonard Skinnyard soundin songs. Great guitar sound and well worth the watch. This was the last of thier two night show at Logans. Somehow I got the feeling these guys might do well in Sooke or Duncan. Its strange how bands like this just book Victoria and Naniamo.... They could easily play more great bars in the smaller towns.
Fuck I was tired and was trying to keep my eyes open. Zipp Gunn walked on the dancfloor and yelled at The Mags to get er done. I haven't seen the Mags for some time and was wondering if they where still as great as I remeber them. The guitarist loomed on the dark corner with his Gibson flying V... thar was gonna a be a slant of metal I could see. The cord was struck and the singer started his croonin of a hard stompin brand. The Mags songs tonight where Rock and just when the one song was over they dug into the next one. They weren't lettin up on the throttle at all and the dance floor contained two guys that where freakin me out. These guys where feelin the music and every once and awhile would give one of these fuckin huge David Lee Roth jumping kicks to the songs. The Mags where goin OFF and as I stood there I realized I was no longer tired and these guys are now my favorite Victoria ROCK band. If you haven't seen them yet you better check them out! If you don't think they ROCK..... I'll just be waiting outside after their show to fight you!
love -ricky JaK
